Home Remedies For Stress: Everything You Need

Stress happens to all of us. It’s just a natural part of life, but that doesn’t mean you can’t do anything about it when you need to rest, relax, and recover from too much of it lately.

Thankfully, stress has existed for as long as we have, so humans have learned a thing or two about how to remedy stress at home over the thousands of years.

Like Dr. Seuss would say, you can remedy your stress here or there. You can remedy it anywhere. Let’s learn what you can do about stress with natural remedies you can include in your daily routine.

What Can You Do At Home To Remedy Your Stress?

If we’re lucky, we can leave our stress at the door when we come home from work or school. But, in reality, between chores, relationship dynamics, financial responsibilities, obligations, and other little things in life, stress can be there to greet us when we walk in the door too.

Because stress can exist in just about any area of our lives, it’s important that we have a few home remedies to alleviate tension. Here are a few home tips to try on your stress in your daily life.

1 - A Warm Bath

You always hear people suggest a warm bath at the end of a hard day because a few problems submerging your body in a warm bath can’t at least make it a little more bearable.

The bath is a calm, quiet space with very few distractions. That’s another reason why it’s such a relaxing way to quiet your mind.

For added stress relief, try dimming the lights and lighting an aromatic candle. The dim lighting can signal your brain that it’s time to be quiet and calm and prepare for rest.

Aromatics from a candle or bubble bath in calming scents like lavender can help soothe your mind’s tension, while the warm water works to soothe the muscle tension that comes from stress.

You can always add Epsom salts and a few drops of lavender oil or other essential oils to your hot bath to take it a step further. Aromatherapy is a great way to help lower cortisol levels.

2 - Yoga

The practice of yoga emphasizes deep breathing and focusing on controlling your movements which can help lower your heart rate after stress and calm your mind. Yoga offers other benefits like improving balance, increasing flexibility, and improving strength.

Yoga, like most exercise, also releases chemicals in your brain like dopamine, serotonin, and norepinephrine that make you feel good. These can also help reduce the negative feelings like irritability that stress can promote.

3 - Get Some Sleep

At the end of a hard day, have you ever wanted to hide under the covers for a while? As it turns out, that instinct has you halfway to one of the best home remedies for stress.

Getting a good night’s rest can help put stress back into a healthy perspective. Sometimes, our stress is a manifestation of being tired. After several hours of shuteye, you can wake up with a new way to look at your problems.

Oftentimes, rest is good medicine, and even if your stress is still waiting on you, you can have a fresh mind and focus on evaluating and problem-solving.

Unfortunately, stress can make it difficult to fall asleep. You may need a little support to help you calm your mind, get to sleep, and stay asleep when stress has a hold of you.

Consider a nighttime supplement like Complete Calm Sleep Gummies to naturally help support a restful night’s sleep without making you feel sluggish the following day.

Sleep is such a vital part of our overall health. Making an effort to establish a sleep routine and practicing good sleep hygiene can help you stay on track with your rest, even in times of stress.

4 - A Hot Cup of Tea

For centuries, there were no prescriptions when people struggled with feeling stressed or anxious. Instead, there were herbal teas to help quiet their mind.

One of the most famous herbal teas is chamomile tea for its calming effects, but other herbs are also used for their ability to help calm, soothe, or promote sleep, such as:

  • Lavender
  • Lemon balm
  • Holy basil
  • Panax Ginseng
  • Passionflower
  • Peppermint

Herbal teas can be an acquired taste, and you need to discuss the frequent use of herbs with your physician as they can interact poorly with other medications or have unwanted side effects.

If you enjoy herbal teas, a warm cup of peppermint tea to soothe you in the morning, or a nice hot cup of chamomile at the end of the day to help lull you to sleep might be an enjoyable way to help you relax at home.

5 - A Calming Supplement

If herbal teas aren’t suited to your taste, there are calming supplements like Complete Calm De-Stress Gummies that offer similar herbs and extracts that promote a sense of well-being and help quiet your mind.

These quick and easy supplements only need to be taken once each day. This makes them really easy to add to your routine. In a tasty medium, these gummies can help you feel calmer almost immediately. In addition, some of the herbs like ginseng and lion’s mane extract can help support your focus and cognitive functions to help you manage stress and still get things done. While other ingredients can help soothe tension and elevate your mood.

6 - Meditation

One of the best things about meditation is that when you’ve learned how to practice it, you have it at your disposal virtually anywhere. Meditation is an ancient practice that promotes deep breathing, mindfulness, and controlling and focusing your thoughts.

As you learn to focus your thoughts, you can quiet the racing ones and slow yourself down. Mindful meditation can be a great way to bring the day to a close and help support your sleep efforts.

If you are new to meditation and feeling stressed, you may need to start slowly and work your way up to longer periods of meditation. Like exercise, it’s okay to start small and build on your progress as long as you are doing it.

You may find journaling can help you work through your thoughts and help give you ideas of what you’d like to direct your mindful meditation towards.

7 - Phone A Friend

Talking to a friend or loved one can help you cope easier with stress. Even if you never talk about your stressors, just spending time with the people you care about can help you feel more relaxed, happier, and healthier.

In times of stress, it’s common to isolate yourself without realizing it. Think about the last time you talked to a friend or went for a bite to eat. Maybe it’s time to take the break your mind is screaming for and make time for the people you care about for the sake of your own mental health.

Summary

Your stress is part of your life, but that doesn’t mean it is in charge of your life. You can take back control with home remedies that can help alleviate the tension you feel and help you resume your calmer life.

Adding small things to the end of a stressful day can help you find your inner peace and help you to feel grounded. You have to find what works for you, but some home remedies to consider are taking a warm bath, practicing yoga, enjoying a hot cup of herbal tea or a calming supplement, and getting the rest that so many of us lack.

Remember that meditation and talking to a friend or loved one are great tools at your disposal. There’s no home remedy that can replace good mental health therapy, but you can find ways to support your overall efforts.
